Educational Outreach
The UNCW Office of Cultural Arts serves regional K-12 schools through its ARTworks initiative. ARTworks utilizes valuable campus and community partnerships with the Watson School of Education, Watson School of Education Professional Development System and New Hanover County Schools to provide teachers and students free live performances, professional development workshops and in-school artist residencies.
In 2010, the Office of Cultural Arts formed an official partnership with New Hanover County Schools and was accepted to the prestigious Partners in Education program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Selected because of a demonstrated commitment to the improvement of education in and through the arts, the Partnership Team participates in collaborative efforts to provide professional development opportunities for educators. In addition to free performances for schools and in-school workshops for students, the 2011/12 season will bring acclaimed Kennedy Center teaching artists to New Hanover County to work closely with teachers in and outside the classroom.
