Senior I Major: Exercise Science
“I am a senior at UNCW majoring in Exercise Science. For my Honors research project, I conducted a research study entitled, “Comparison of Percent Body Fat Between Body Mass Index Prediction Equation Against Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry Amongst a Young Adult, Athletic Population”. The purpose of this investigation was to compare a well known prediction equation for percent body fat (%BF) against actual %BF measured via Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA). The compared prediction equation was derived from a healthy, but non-athletic adult population, whereas for my study, I collected data from a young, athletic adult population. Data analyses revealed that there is a significant difference between the predicted %BF compared to actual %BF given this young, athletic adult population. Findings from this study will be presented at the 2011 National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Ithaca, NY.”
