Minority Mentor Program

Want to connect with minority students at UNCW?

Logistical information
• Duration– Academic year with a minimum of 20 hours of mentor/mentee communication
• Two to three on location meetings at the corporate physical location
• Pre and Post evaluation (form format) of the student’s developmental progress
• 50% of mentor/mentee contact must be face-to-face, with you or other employees

Employer communication to mentee to include, but not limited to:
• Work Ethic discussion
• Professional Business Attire
• Business Etiquette-Corporate Culture – within their own organization as well as others that they may have previously been affiliated with
• Staff Meetings
• Expectations of business social engagements with customers/supervisors
• Expand character development of the student
• Time Management
• Office Politics
• Working with customers (an example of a difficult customer and a cooperative customer)
• Financial and benefits connected to the corporation where the student has a mentor
• Working in a competitive market
• Preferred communication style of the organization
• Network contacts
• Mentor (advisory board member) will be responsible for evaluation of the student but will connect mentee with key staff within company
