Welcome to the Undergraduate Opportunities within the UNC-Wilmington Housing and Residence Life Department. There are a variety of opportunities for incoming or current UNCW students designed to suit a variety of needs and skills. The Housing and Residence Life Department has positions with Residence Life, Maintenance & Operations, and Marketing, Technology & Communications. - Resident Advisor (RA)
The Resident Assistant is responsible for an on-campus residential floor, wing, pod, building, or area. The Resident Assistant serves as a facilitator to encourage a positive and welcoming, healthy and safe, cooperative and considerate living environment. The RA is expected to help build a strong, inclusive community by initiating and organizing floor, wing, pod or hall activities and programs. The RA serves as an information resource for the campus and residence hall. The RA also serves to assist with the personal and academic concerns of the resident and to help manage conflicts that may arise in the residential area. Therefore, an RA is expected to be a person who cares about their residents and continuously strives to make the residence hall a valuable and educational place to live.
- Desk Receptionist (DR)
A Desk Receptionist (DR) is a student staff member who works at one of the front desks. The DR is responsible for answering the front desk telephone; help with loaner keys; answer resident questions and issuing supplies and equipment. By maintaining an awareness of residents and others entering and leaving the building, the DR is also responsible for providing security in the hall. The DR will ask residents to show a UNCW ID and may inspect bags/backpacks if there is probable reasoning. This is done for resident's safety and the safety of others living in the hall.
- Key Runner
The Residence Life Key Runner is an administrative staff member based out of the Office of Housing and Residence Life. The Key Runner holds an hourly appointment to provide loaner keys to residents and to assist with administrative tasks in the Housing and Residence Life Office. The Key Runner is directly supervised by the Assistant Director of Residence Life.
- Student Maintenance Worker
The Office of Housing and Residence Life at UNC Wilmington employs a staff of students as maintenance workers during the academic year and summertime. The Maintenance Student Workers primary mission is to assist the full time Maintenance Staff in performing routine maintenance work. The student staff is an important part of the day to day operations and the summer turn around process. A major area of responsibility emphasized is customer service. - Student Inventory Assistant
The Office of Housing and Residence Life at UNC Wilmington employ a student staff that serves as inventory control support for the Housing Maintenance Supervisor. The student staff is an important part of the day to day operations and the summer turn around process. A major area of responsibility emphasized is customer service and organization. - Resident Hall Association Executive Board
The Residence Hall Association is the overall governing body for all University of North Carolina Wilmington Residence Halls. The Residence Hall Association serves as the representative body for the on-campus student population, promotes and generates campus activities, serves as a resource for the students and staff, and is responsible for the review, formulation, and recommendation of housing policies to the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
