Provost

Cathy L. Barlow, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington received her Ed.D. from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, M.A. from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana and B.A. from Milligan College, Tennessee. Prior to her appointment as Dean of the Watson School of Education in 2000, she held administrative positions including acting dean and then dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences at the University of Evansville in Indiana and department chair and then interim dean at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Under her leadership, the Watson School of Education has been recognized for excellence in teacher education, and UNCW has been recognized for its Learning-Centered Cognitive Coaching Model. Among her many outstanding accomplishments has been her leadership in establishing our undergraduate and graduate teacher licensure programs as some of the best in the country. All Watson School of Education programs were reaccredited in March 2006 by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the State Department of Public Instruction, and the school received four commendations from the visiting reaccreditation team.

Dr. Barlow is a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), current President of TECSCU, Past President of Women in the Deanship, and she is an elected board member of Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities (TECSCU). She has made numerous conference/workshop presentations and is the author or co-author of several publications. She is also the recipient of several grants.
