ACCEPTED FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS are invited to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Spring visit day, Soaring to Greatness, on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Discover the academic and experiential opportunities that await you as a member of the Seahawk community. Visiting the campus is always the best way for students to get a true feel for a university and its programs; we hope you will join us to experience UNCW!
Check-in takes place in Trask Coliseum beginning at 8:45 a.m. with a welcome session beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m. "Early Bird” tours will be offered before the welcome session on a first-come, first-served basis at 8:30 a.m. (you will be able to sign-up for this during the registration process).
After the welcome session, the day is divided into sessions that allow you to learn more about different aspects of academic and campus life at UNCW. Sessions include:
- a sample, “Master Class” taught by a UNCW professor (for students only)
- panelists from several campus life departments discussing life on campus and expectations of your student(s) (for parents only)
- an academic and student services fair with representatives from every academic department and many student services
- current UNCW students discussing student life and involvement (for students only)
- campus experts discussing the "TEAL Experience" beyond the classroom at UNCW – including internships, study abroad, mentored research, etc. (for parents only)
The formal program concludes at 1:00 p.m., at which time you are encouraged to participate in up to three of these 20-minute optional overview sessions:
- Money Matters with the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid.
- Home Away From Home with the Office of Housing & Residence Life.
- Daily Dish with Campus Dining.
- Binaries with the Information Systems Technology Division (ITSD).
- Road Rules for the Real World with the Career Center.
- Global Getaways with Office of International Programs.
- re:SEARCH with the Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (C-SURF).
- Seahawk Surges with the Center for Leadership Education & Service Learning (CLES).
In addition to the early bird option, campus tours will be offered at 1:20 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., and will last one hour and include one residence hall. Please note: the afternoon campus tours overlap the optional sessions above. If you would like to maximize the number of optional sessions you can attend, please consider joining us for an "Early Bird" tour.
You may also tour specified Residence Halls on your own from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. (Resident Assistants – RAs – will show display rooms).
Light refreshments and beverages will be available during the day, however, lunch will not be provided due to the strict schedule of events we must adhere to. Our office will be partnering with several local restaurants which will offer great discounts after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and throughout the day on Sunday by presenting your Soaring to Greatness schedule. More information coming soon!
Since we are expecting a large crowd, you are encouraged to carpool, if possible.
