The University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks to admit students with
the intellectual ability to perform successfully in the collegiate community.
Students must have the motivation and the determination to avail themselves
of the learning experiences that will be beneficial to them if they are
to attain both academic and personal enrichment. As a state-supported institution,
the university is aware of its obligation to provide an educational opportunity
to qualified applicants who will benefit from the program of study offered
on UNC Wilmington.
Please note that admission to the university does not constitute admission to a specific program. Admission to the professional schools, as well as other programs, require a separate application process. This process can only occur following:
general admission to the university
satisfactory completion of basic studies requirements
specific requirements as set forth by each professional school and program
The professional schools include:
Cameron School of Business
Watson School of Education
School of Nursing
Note for Home Schooled Students:
The home schooled applicant, while reviewed by the same standards as public or private school applicants, should be certain to include detailed course descriptions and a thorough explanation of the standards used to evaluate their academic progress. The transcript must be notarized as authentic in order to be considered official. The required recommendation to include in a home schooled applicant’s materials should emanate from an individual who is equipped to discuss that candidate’s academic potential and ability to succeed in a university setting. Often, home schooled students supplement their academic work through community college courses and are able to ask those teachers for such recommendations. If questions about a home schooled applicant's performance persist, supplemental information may be requested of the applicant. For example, since some conventional means of evaluating home schooled applicants, such as rank and course rigor, are not available, it may be more difficult to verify that the minimum course requirements, as mandated by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina, have been met.
