UNCW alumni celebrated Homecoming 2008 with great events sponsored by the Alumni Association. Photo essays of the weekend’s activities are now online (TEALgate and game, parade and step show).
On Feb. 8, the Alumni Association hosted its annual Awards Banquet and Scholarship Endowment Gala in Warwick Center. About 140 alumni and friends attended the banquet and silent auction, which raised more than $20,000 for the 16 scholarships supported by the Alumni Association. The evening included awards presentations for the 2008 recipients of the association’s highest honors: Alumni of the Year – Herbert ’53 and Sylvia Fisher ’50; Citizen of the Year – Ty Rowell; and Young Alumnus of the Year Bill Mayew ’97, ’98M.
On Feb. 9, about 300 alumni and friends attended the Tealgate celebration outside Trask Coliseum prior to the men’s basketball team’s game against James Madison (Seahawks won – 99 to 85!). After the game, many alumni and friends stopped by Warwick Center for the Homecoming Legacy Scholarship Dance, sponsored by the Alumni Association and African American Graduate Association (AAGA), to support the Denis G. Carter Scholarship.
