Alumni News

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTJames Jones
The alumni spotlight shines on James Earl Jones Jr. who received his MBA from UNCW in 2002 and is the controller at International Paper in Rieglewood. James received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Carolina A&T University in 1988 and shares his “Seahawk spirit’ with “Aggie pride.” James is married to Latica, a processing assistant in the UNCW registrar’s office, and they have two children, Justin and Jourdan. James sings in the church choir, cycles, works in his yard and walks for fun. He volunteers for ROCAME and the Rieglewood Community Foundation. UNCW and its alumni association welcome James to the board of directors and appreciate his volunteerism.

WIN THE SEAHAWK BEETLE
Bob King ’66 has welcomed Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo with a gift to the UNCW Alumni Association – a 2003 sunflower yellow VW “Seahawk” Beetle. This gift will be used to raise money for alumni-sponsored merit scholarships and to encourage all UNCW alumni to give back to their alma mater. King reinforces the chancellor’s benchmarking study that emphasizes the long-term benefit to UNCW of alumni giving and support. Alumni are the “traditional foundation for unwavering UNCW support,” he said, and he challenges other alumni to make their own personal gifts to UNCW and to purchase a $25 chance on the 2003 Seahawk Beetle. The winning ticket will be drawn during a timeout of the Homecoming 2004 basketball game on Jan. 24. For more information, please call alumni relations at 962.2682 or 800.596.2880. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 18.
