Buttino receives CREWS AWARD
Film studies professor Louis F. Buttino was awarded the third annual J. Marshall Crews Distinguished Faculty Award sponsored by the Past Chairs’ Council of the UNCW Alumni Association. For this honor he received a $500 cash stipend and a medallion. His nominator said he “has the unique ability to instill the desire to learn without a student realizing it. His caring for each and every student, whether on an academic or personal level, is commendable and one I have not encountered before. It is obvious he has a passion for teaching, for the community and for humanity.”
WARREN IS HONORED STAFF MEMBER
Robert Warren ’74 received the 2004 UNCW Staff Award of Excellence at the university’s 29th annual Service Awards Program. LEGACY LUNCHEON RESCHEDULED
The university’s first Legacy Luncheon has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18 during Family Weekend. Postponed because of Hurricane Charley, the luncheon will recognize families who are making UNCW a family tradition. This fall, there are 51 freshmen who have a parent who is a graduate of UNCW; three students also have a grandparent who is an alumnus. During the pinning ceremony, the alumnus parent will “pin” his or her student with a lapel pin, signifying the student’s status as a UNCW legacy. Students attending also receive a T-shirt and other giveaways. Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo will welcome students along with Ed Vosnock ’71, UNCW Alumni Association Board of Directors chairman, and Zack Wynne, Student Government Association president. For more information about this event, please contact the alumni office at 910.962.2682.
