The
Watson School of Education Alumni Chapter presents
its annual alumni lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 17 in the
Randall Library auditorium. Linda Harrelson ‘82 will
present “I Can Manage Myself!” The presentation
is about helping students improve their behavior through self-management.
It is a topic that will be of interest to future teachers
and those already working with children. Harrelson is the
educational trainer for the New Hanover County School’s
Professional Development Department. She is a National Board
Certified teacher and was named to the USA Today’s fifth
annual ALL USA Teacher Team.
The Atlanta
Alumni Chapter invites all Atlanta area alumni
to come out to Frankie’s Sports Bar and Grill at 7p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 21 for fun and fellowship. Tom Lamont
‘80, assistant director of alumni relations, will be
in town with the latest from UNCW and will bring special door
prizes for some lucky Atlanta alumni! Don’t miss
out on all the fun. Come out and support your university!
The Atlanta Chapter
is also planning to support the UNCW baseball team.
The Seahawks play the University of Georgia in Athens at 4
p.m. Saturday, March 13. UNCW alumni in the Atlanta and Athens
areas are invited to come out and watch the Seahawks take
on the Bulldogs. The chapter hopes to meet alumni at the ballpark

The Richmond
Alumni Chapter, in conjunction with the UNCW
Alumni Association, is sponsoring a CAA Tournament social
on Friday, March 5 as the UNCW Seahawks come to town to defend
their CAA Conference Championship. This year’s
event will take place at Buffalo Wild Wings located at 7801
West Broad Street in Richmond. The event will start
at 8 p.m. or immediately following the Seahawk’s basketball
game (if the team has to play on Friday night). All
UNCW alumni are invited, especially those who live in Virginia!

The Triangle
Alumni Chapter meets the second Tuesday
of every month. March 9 is the next gathering opportunity
for UNCW Triangle Alumni. If you would like more information

The Communication
Studies Alumni Chapter is gearing up
for its annual Communication Studies Day on Friday, March
19. The chapter and the Communication Studies Department are
partnering again this year to bring alumni, students and faculty
together for a day of learning, networking and giving back
to the university. Communication studies alumni interested
in participating in this year’s event should contact
chapter President Aaron Oliver ‘81 at aaron284@bellsouth.net.
The chapter also invites alumni interested to attend its next
planning meeting at noon Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Wise Alumni
House, 1713 Market Street. Help us make Communication Studies

The Nursing
Alumni Chapter needs UNCW nursing alums

The Cape
Fear Alumni Chapter and President Jodi
Chilcote ‘98 are looking for local alumni volunteers
to help with the annual Cape Fear Alumni Golf Tournament in
the spring. If you are interested in playing, volunteering
the day of the tournament or helping the chapter with prizes,
please contact Tom Lamont ‘80 in the Alumni Relations
Office at 962.2684. The location, time and date for
this year’s event are still pending. If you have

The Charleston
Alumni Chapter needs a new chapter leader. Chapter
President Wayne Tharp ’75 and his wife Judy ’78
are moving to Wisconsin. The UNCW Alumni Association
would like to thank Wayne and Judy for their continued support
for UNCW, and we appreciate their alumni work in the chapter.
We hope they will continue to stay connected to the university
after they settle in Wisconsin. Meanwhile Charleston
area alumni are needed to help greet our 25 UNCW Student Ambassadors
who will be visiting the city March 4-7 for their annual conference
to be held this year at the College of Charleston. Any Charleston
area alumni interested in welcoming our ambassadors, the university’s
