A year-end gift to UNCW may qualify for substantial one-time tax incentives under the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005. The legislation was designed to encourage charitable contributions to a wide range of qualified organizations; donations do not need to relate to hurricane relief to qualify and they may be for any amount. Gifts to UNCW are eligible for this tax incentive. Please consult your tax advisor for more information. Contributions must be received by Dec. 31. CHAPTER NEWS AND EVENTS
The Triangle Chapter is planning
a social for Triangle area alumni at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 at the Ale House
on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh. Alumni are invited to be part of a planning
committee for the first golf tournament for the Triangle Chapter. The annual
Durham Bulls outing will be held Saturday, April 22. Tickets to the cookout
and the game will go on sale soon. For information on these events, alumni can

Cape Fear area alumni are invited to a social being hosted by the Atlanta Chapter Feb. 10-11. A bus trip is planned from Wilmington to Atlanta for the UNCW vs. Georgia State men’s basketball game. Tickets are available online at http://www.uncwalumnitickets.com.
Charleston area alumni will be gathering at the Bull & Finch restaurant and pub Friday, March 31.
Alumni living in California will soon be able to gather and learn what new things have been going on with UNCW. Two socials are being planned for the spring of 2006. One will take place in San Francisco and the other will take place in Los Angeles.
Two alumni socials are being planned for early March in Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando.

LEVY AND BRUCE HONORED AT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP RECEPTION
UNCW professors Diane Levy and Kate Bruce were surprised
by Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo and guests at a reception for the initiation

UNCW'S AQUARIUS WINS INFOWORLD 100 AWARD
Aquarius undersea research laboratory, owned by
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association and operated by UNCW, is a
recipient of an InfoWorld 100 Award. Orthogon Systems, a leading provider of
fixed wireless solutions for reliable connectivity in difficult environments,
bestow these annual awards to information technology projects that demonstrate

JENKINS NAMED UNCW ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENTS
Anthony Jenkins was named UNCW associate dean of students.
He comes from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago where he served as

SEAHAWKS LOSE 54-51 TO BADGERS
Wisconsin squeaked by UNCW men’s basketball team in
their Dec. 12 matchup. The Seahawks had a four-game winning streak snapped and
return home Saturday, Dec. 17 for only the third time in 10 outings this season.
Junior guard T.J. Carter paced the Seahawks with a career-high 19 points on

Women's Soccer Honored For Work In Classroom
With a collective grade point average of 3.24, the UNC Wilmington
women’s soccer team has been honored with the Team Academic Award by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2004-05 school year.
It marks the fourth consecutive year head coach Paul Cairney’s squad has

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets for the sixth induction of the UNCW Athletic Hall
of Fame can purchased in the athletic ticket office, Trask Coliseum. The banquet
will be held Jan. 28 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. Tickets are $15 each for
the noon ceremony. The inductees include former student-athletes Eddie Booth
(baseball), Amy Lewis (women’s swimming and diving) and Bill Mayew (men’s

LEGER CAPS CAREER WITH NSCAA REGIONAL HONOR
Senior forward Sam Leger, a Second-Team All-Colonial Athletic
Association selection in November, was named to the All-NSCAA/Adidas South Atlantic
Region Third-Team. Leger helped lead UNC Wilmington to its first-ever CAA semifinal
appearance. He is the third Seahawk to earn All-region honors over the last

SPRING BASEBALL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
The 2006 slate features 34 home games and an appearance in
the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville. In addition, Brooks Field will serve
