DOBO BROTHERS,
DIAB HONORED FOR MANY CONTRIBUTIONS
Bill Dobo ’51, Bob Dobo ’50 and George Diab were the honorees at
the UNCW Alumni Association’s 2005 awards dinner Feb. 4. The Dobo brothers
were jointly recipients of the Alumnus of the Year Award which is open to all
men and women who attended and/or graduated from Wilmington College or UNCW.
Diab was named Distinguished Citizen of the Year, an honor given to individuals

ATLANTA ALUMNI
GATHERING
Atlanta area alumni are invited to a gathering at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22
at Frankie’s Restaurant. Caroline Norelius, director of alumni relations;
Todd Olesiuk ’99, interim assistant director; and Donis Noe Smith ’86,
’94M, vice president of the alumni association, will be present to hang
an authentic framed UNCW basketball jersey in the restaurant. For details contact

FRIENDS HOST TOURS
OF KENAN HOUSE
The first public tours of the renovated Kenan House – one of the city’s
most notable historic homes and the chancellor’s residence – will
be hosted this weekend by the Friends of UNCW. Tours will be conducted from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 and from 1 to 5 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 20. Kenan House is located at 1705 Market Street. Tickets, $15
per person, are available at Embellishments in Lumina Station. They will also
be available at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of UNCW Scholarship

A regional collaboration of three University of North Carolina campuses –

If you are the parent of a high school senior expecting to go to college in
the fall of 2005, you can get help applying for financial aid at a special session
from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 19, at Bear Hall. Thirty financial aid
and computer assistance professionals will be on hand to help families complete

UNCW SEARCHES FOR
NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
UNCW has
initiated its quest for a new athletics director and hopes to complete a comprehensive
national search by early summer. Applications for the position are being sought
via several national media outlets, including The NCAA News and The Chronicle
of Higher Education. Review of the applications will begin on March 4, 2005,
and the pool will be pared down before three or four finalists are invited to

SEAHAWKS SWEEP
DRAGONS FOR ROAD WIN
UNCW built a 22-point cushion in the second half before surviving a
furious rally by host Drexel to gain a split of its two-game road trip to the
Northeast with a 69-66 victory over the Dragons in CAA men’s basketball
Monday, Feb. 14 at the Daskalakis Center in Philadelphia, Pa. The Seahawks improved
to 16-8 overall and maintained their lock on second place in the CAA with an

DIAMOND HAWKS 2-0 SETBACK
Junior lefthander Mike Ballard struck out six and scattered a pair
of singles as Virginia defeated UNC Wilmington 2-0 in college baseball action
Saturday, Feb. 12 at Brooks Field. The Cavaliers took advantage of two UNCW

LAWRENCE LEADS
SEAHAWKS TO OVERTIME WIN
Sophomore guard Denise Lawrence notched career-highs of 24 points and
12 rebounds, and UNCW overcame an early 22-4 deficit to earn a 78-76 overtime
victory over Hofstra Feb. 13 at Hofstra Arena. It was UNCW's first road win
of the season. The Seahawks return to Trask Coliseum Feb. 17 for a 7 p.m. tip-off

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS
COMING TO TRASK IN MARCH
Nifty passes, blind shots and trick plays are all part of the repertoire
of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. On Wednesday, March 23, basketball’s
goodwill ambassadors will entertain fans at Trask Coliseum for the first time
in recent memory. Tickets for the 7 p.m. game with the New York Nationals are
$50 for courtside seats and $22 for general seating. Fans can purchase tickets
