UNCW IS IN TOP 10 AGAIN
For the ninth consecutive year, UNCW is one of the top 10 public master’s
universities in the South in the annual college rankings by U.S.News & World
Report. UNCW ranks seventh in the 2007 edition, as it has for six out
of the past nine years. Among the 127 public and private universities in the
South that provide a full range of undergraduate and master's level programs,

LEGACIES RECOGNIZED
Nearly 100
freshmen with at least one parent who graduated from Wilmington College or
UNCW will be honored during the UNCW Alumni Association Legacy Luncheon Saturday,
Aug. 19 in Trask Coliseum’s Golden Hawk Room. Chancellor DePaolo will
welcome the largest group of “legacies” in university history.
MARYLAND ALUMNI
WANT UNCW LICENSE PLATE
Members of the Maryland Alumni Chapter want to start a customized UNCW license
plate program. A one-time $50 tag fee would be charged in addition to the regular
motor vehicle fee; $25 will be returned to the UNCW Alumni Association to support
undergraduate and graduate scholarships. For more information please contact

FAMILY WEEKEND PHOTOS
AT WISE ALUMNI HOUSE
During Family Weekend – Oct. 13-15 – the alumni association will
offer a photo opportunity at Wise Alumni House. From 1 to 3 p.m. all students,
alumni and friends are invited to have their photo taken with their friends and
family at this historic home. Electronic photos will be free, and hard copy photos

FALL ALUMNI WEEKEND
Fall Alumni Weekend will be Oct. 20-22 and will include a variety of events for
people of all interests: a Wilmington College lunch cruise, a picnic at the

PERSONALIZED SEAHAWK LICENSE PLATES AVAILABLE
UNCW
Seahawk license plates are $25 and can be personalized for $45. For each
plate, $15 of the application fee supports the alumni association’s
scholarship program, which currently awards 13 scholarships of $1,500 or

UNCW alumni host a social from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday this summer at Mayfaire Town Center’s “Music on the Town” concert series. The Atlanta Alumni Chapter is hosting the annual Atlanta Braves baseball game outing Saturday, Sept. 9. The Braves will take on the Chicago Cubs. A pregame social will be held at 4 p.m. at Jocks and Jill’s (Brookhaven). Tickets can be purchased at http://www.uncwalumnitickets.com.

LISTSERV FOR TRIANGLE ALUMNI
In July, several members of the Triangle Alumni Chapter met at Hi-5 restaurant
in Raleigh to discuss the future involvement of volunteers. The chapter is
seeking alumni to be a part of the leadership team. A listserv has been created

PUBLISHING LAB PRODUCES BACKYARD
CAROLINA WITH ANDY WOOD
The UNCW Publishing Laboratory has collaborated with Andy Wood, nature radio
commentator and education director for Audubon North Carolina, to publish Backyard
Carolina, a collection of essays taken from his public radio commentaries.

MPA PROGRAM RECEIVES NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
The Master of Public Administration degree program at UNCW has been accredited
by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration,
a national and international resource for the promotion of excellence in

FISHER STUDENT CENTER HAS GRAND OPENING
An official grand opening ceremony for the Herbert and Sylvia Fisher Student

FRATERNITIES TO ‘WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES’
Don’t be alarmed to see some of the top fraternity men from UNCW walking
downtown at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26. As part of a community service project
to benefit the Coastal Carolina Rape Center, fraternities will be showing their
support, raising money and awareness for women who are victims of violence

for junior golf prospects in the second annual College Golf Guide featured

BOBCATS BRINGING CAMP BACK TO TRASK COLISEUM
One year after bringing their preseason training camp to UNCW, the National
Basketball Association’s Charlotte Bobcats have reached an agreement
to return to Trask Coliseum in preparation for the club’s third season.
The camp will be Oct. 2-9 with an intrasquad game set for Sunday, Oct. 8.

The UNCW fall 2006 athletics season is underway. Don’t miss the men’s

UNCW LAUNCHES NEW ARTS WEB SITE
As part of its Year of the Arts celebration, UNCW has launched a new comprehensive
arts Web site as an in-depth resource for the wide variety of arts activities

The ninth annual Got-Em-On Live Bait Club scholarship golf tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at The Cape Golf and Racquet Club. All proceeds will be used to fund an endowment and active fellowships for marine science graduate students at UNCW. The format will be captain’s choice, handicapped and flighted. Registration is $55 for men and $45 for women. Lunch will be provided and a social will follow at the clubhouse. The tournament is co-sponsored by Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty. When the Levees Broke, a four-hour documentary on Hurricane Katrina by Spike Lee, includes film footage by UNCW Professor Maurice M. Martinez. WHQR will have a panel discussion following the 7:30 p.m. showing of An Inconvenient Truth, a documentary about global warming, on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Thalian Hall. Panelists include: Daniel Baden, director of the UNCW Center for Marine Science; Randall Johnson, director of the N.C. Biotechnology Center; Roey Rosenblith, president of Cape Fear Biofuels Board of Trustees and architect Charles Boney Jr., vice president of LS3P BONEY. Admission is $7.

Randall Library will host its annual Thirsty Tome at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, featuring UNCW Department of Creative Writing faculty and Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing students reading aloud from their works - fiction, non-fiction or poetry.
