includes a ticket to the alumni association’s awards
banquet and scholarship endowment gala where the young
alumna, distinguished citizen and alumnus of the year award
winners will be honored.

AAGA ticket packages as well as reunion activities for the
classes of 1957 and 1978-1983.
Men’s basketball pregame socials will be held Saturday,
Jan. 13 when the Seahawks play Georgia State University and
Homecoming, Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Seahawks play William & Mary.

education with the 2006 Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence

The Marines of Montford Point: Fighting
for Freedom debuted
at a private screening Nov. 14. The hour long documentary,
written and co-produced by UNCW, chronicles the largely untold
story of the first African-Americans to serve in the United
States Marine Corps. Actor Louis Gossett Jr. narrates the

Ronald Baird, former director of the National Sea Grant College
Program and currently a research professor of marine science
at UNCW, received a 2006 Presidential Rank Award, the most
prestigious federal award given to senior professionals. MORE
Lawrence B. Cahoon, professor of biology and
marine biology, was one of 20 scholars selected nationwide
as a BEN Scholar. Funded by the National Science Foundation
through the American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS), the BiosciEdNet (BEN) Scholars Program is designed
to promote the use of digital resources in undergraduate

Senior guard Blake Ahearn scored 18
points to lead five players in double figures as Missouri
State won its fourth straight with a 78-62 victory over
UNCW on Dec. 9 at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks close out
the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule Saturday, Dec.
