OF THE YEAR AWARDS PRESENTED
The UNCW Alumni Association presented awards to two alumni
and a legendary professor during a Homecoming celebration Jan. 27 in the Warwick

CHAPTER NEWS AND EVENTS
Alumni living in Florida are invited to
socials in Fort Lauderdale at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Tarpon Bend and
in Orlando at 6 p.m. Monday, March 6 at the Bahama Breeze, 8735 Vineland Ave.
Assistant alumni director Todd Olesiuk ’99 will be on hand to provide
information about UNCW’s growth and success, and alumni will be able to

Crew Club Alumni Weekend begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Cape Fear Rowing Club. At 6:30 p.m. dinner will be held at Elijah’s Restaurant. RSVP with Curt Browder ’92 at William.Browder@ace-ina.com.
The next event for the Triangle Chapter is the annual Durham Bulls outing Saturday, April 22. For more information contact Triangle chapter representative, Steve Hailey at stephen.hailey@ubs.com. The chapter will host the inaugural Triangle Golf Tournament Friday, June 9 at Wildwood Greens Golf Club in Raleigh. Teams of four amateur golfers will play in a captain’s choice format, with entries limited to the first 20 registered teams. The Cape Fear Alumni Chapter will hold its eighth annual Grand Slam Jam baseball pregame tailgate at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5 at Brooks Field. At 7 p.m. alumni will cheer the UNCW baseball team as they take on the Delaware Blue Hens. Space is limited; tickets are required and can be purchased at http://www.uncwalumnitickets.com. California alumni will soon have oportunities to meet and learn more about the latest news from UNCW. Two socials are planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27: Wipe Out Bar and Grill in San Francisco and Rusty’s Surf Ranch at Santa Monica Pier (Los Angeles). UNIVERSITY WEB SITE GETS NEW LOOK
UNCW unveiled a new design for its Web site, www.uncw.edu,
Among the site’s new features is the "Soaring Seahawk," which
features vignettes of notable faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of
the university. Eventually, the site will accept nominations for people to feature

GRANT AIMED AT REDUCING TOBACCO
USE AMONG YOUNG ADULTS IN NC
The N.C. Health and Wellness Trust Fund has awarded a $75,243
grant for tobacco use prevention and cessation to UNCW. This is part of the
first state-funded effort to prevent and reduce tobacco use among college-age

UNCW PARTNERS IN COLLABORATIVE
EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN NON-PROFITS
UNCW is partnering with community and citizen groups to form
QENO, Quality Enhancement for Nonprofit Organizations. It is a three-year initiative
designed to improve the capabilities and competencies of nonprofit organizations

SEAHAWKS AVENGE LOSS TO PRIDE,
77-68
Junior guard T.J. Carter, who torched Hofstra for a career-high
31 points in last month’s triple overtime loss to the Pride, poured in
15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half to power UNC Wilmington over

BOSLEY’S ONE-HITTER DRAWS
SPLIT WITH CAMPBELL
Senior pitcher Jennifer Bosley tossed a one-hitter while
striking out a career-high nine as UNCW won the nightcap of doubleheader against
Campbell, 2-1, at Eakes Complex Feb. 15 in college softball action. The Fighting
Camels won game one, 2-1. With the split, the Seahawks moved to 2-1 on the young
season, while Campbell evened its mark to 2-2. UNCW next hosts the Seahawk Classic

SHAMBLEY FINISHES EIGHTH TO PACE
SEAHAWKS
Sophomore Will Shambley carded a 2-under-par 70 in the final
round to finish eighth overall at the UCF/Rio Pinar Men's Golf Intercollegiate
Feb. 13 at the Rio Pinar Country Club. The Seahawks placed 17th overall in their

STRONG FREE THROW SHOOTING PROPELS
SEAHAWKS TO WIN
UNC Wilmington drained 32-of-36 at the free throw line, including
26-of-28 attempts in the second half, to key a 53-41 Colonial Athletic Association
women’s basketball victory over visiting Drexel Feb. 12 at Trask Coliseum.

HARGRAVE POWERS UNCW TO SWEEP OVER
UMES
Sophomore Daniel Hargrave drove in seven runs in game two
on a pair of doubles and a home run as UNCW swept a doubleheader from visiting
Maryland Eastern Shore Feb. 12, 18-0 and 20-1. UNCW pounded out eight round
trippers on the afternoon and both games were halted due to the mercy rule.
