UNCW MOVES UP IN U.S.NEWS RANKINGS
For the 10th consecutive year, the University of North Carolina Wilmington is one of the top 10 public master’s universities in the South in annual college rankings by U.S.News & World Report. UNCW ranks sixth in the 2008 edition, moving up from its seventh place ranking last year. Among the 119 public and private universities in the South ranked by U.S.News that provide a full range of undergraduate and master’s level programs, UNCW improved its overall ranking to 14th this year, up from 20th in the 2007 list. ALUMNI DISCOUNT AVAILABLE FOR EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This fall, UNCW will offer a cutting edge, practical based business program designed specifically for professionals looking to develop, complement and advance their current business knowledge and skills. The 11-week curriculum covers advanced business topics taught by top UNCW business faculty and executives, all of whom bring a wealth of business knowledge, experience, research and practical application into the classroom. Completion of this program will result in a Certificate in Business Administration. UNCW alumni will receive a 10 percent discount on the program cost of $965. MORE

Wise Alumni HouseFAMILY WEEKEND PHOTOS AT WISE ALUMNI HOUSE
One of the cornerstones of Wilmington’s historic mansion district, Wise Alumni House stands tall with its neoclassical revival flair and grandeur of its 1908 architecture. On Saturday,Oct.. 13 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. you can become a part of history when this landmark is reopened to its UNCW family. Professional photographers will be on site to capture this memory. WATSON SCHOOL ALUMNI CHAPTER FALL MEETING
The annual fall meeting of Watson School of Education Alumni Chapter is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 in the Education Building, Room 162. A light buffet dinner will be served, then a meeting will be held to discuss the year ahead. UNCW License platePERSONALIZED SEAHAWK LICENSE PLATES AVAILABLE
UNCW Seahawk license plates are $25 and can be personalized for $45. For each plate, $15 of the application fee supports the alumni association’s scholarship program, which awards 15 scholarships of $1,500 or more. MORE

Move InUNCW WELCOMES FRESHMEN DURING MOVE-IN
More than 1,800 incoming freshmen will set up house on the UNCW campus from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. With the opening of the new Seahawk Landing apartment complex, UNCW will house a total of 3,481 new, transfer and returning students on campus, or 33 percent of the undergraduate student body. Classes for the fall 2007 semester begin Wednesday, Aug. 22. The university expects to have a total student body of more than 11,900 including approximately 1,200 graduate students.

Atlantic coverCREATIVE WRITING AMONG TOP INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS
In its annual summer celebration of fiction, The Atlantic includes an essay on the top creative writing programs in the U.S. UNCW's Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program is named as one of the "Five Top Innovative/Unique Programs in Creative Writing" and is in company with Brown University and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, among others. UNCW LISTED IN PETERSON'S GUIDE
UNCW is included in Peterson's Competitive Colleges 2008: Top Colleges for Top Students. Of the 440 institutions highlighted, UNC Wilmington, UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University and UNC Asheville are the only public North Carolina institutions listed.

SEAHAWK SKIPPER GIVES HOOPS UPDATE
UNCW men's basketball coach Benny Moss has announced several personnel changes with the Seahawks, including recent back surgery on rising sophomore guard Darryl Felder. MORE

MASNSEAHAWKS INK AGREEMENT WITH MASN
UNCW signed an agreement with the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network to televise live up to nine men's basketball games, along with "The Seahawk Sports Roundup" and "The Benny Moss Show," throughout the cable network's seven-state coverage area during the upcoming 2007-08 season. Five of the scheduled games will be produced by the Seahawk TV Network. MORE

SEAHAWK CLUB TO SPONSOR HENRIETTA CRUISE
After a three-year hiatus, UNC Wilmington's Seahawk Club will bring back the Seahawk Boat Cruise next month to raise money for student-athlete scholarships. The event, which features a reception and dinner aboard the paddleboat Henrietta III, is slated for Saturday, Sept. 15, along the Cape Fear River. MORE

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
Nominations are being sought for the seventh induction of the UNCW Athletic Hall of Fame, which is scheduled to take place early in 2008. The hall of fame honors former student-athletes, coaches and administrators. A total of 28 individuals have been honored at six inductions since the hall of fame was established in 1998. MORE

Charlotte Bobcatsbobcats return to UNCW for training camp
The Charlotte Bobcats will hold their preseason training camp at UNC Wilmington's Trask Coliseum for the third consecutive year. The Bobcats are beginning their fourth season overall after going 33-49 in 2006-07 while christening a new arena in downtown Charlotte. New coach Sam Vincent and his staff will stage their training camp Oct. 2-7 in Trask Coliseum, capping the stay with an instrasquad game on Sunday, Oct. 7. MORE
