
The
UNCW Alumni Association bids a fond
farewell to Alumni Relations Director Caroline Norelius, who joined the
university in January 2005. Claire Stanley, external and donor relations
director in the Division for University Advancement, will serve as the
interim alumni director while a national search is conducted. "Caroline
brought great energy and enthusiasm to our alumni programs," said
Mary M. Gornto, vice chancellor for university advancement. Her resignation
is effective June 30, 2007. More
The UNCW Alumni Association is accepting nominations for:
- The
2007 J. Marshall
Crews Distinguished Faculty Award, which recognizes faculty
who have made a difference in the lives of their students.
- The Distinguished
Alumni Award, which pays tribute to alumni who
have achieved honor and distinction with recognition and reputations
that extend beyond the immediate environments in which they live and
work.
- The Young
Alumni Award, which honors individuals who have made outstanding
contributions to their communities through their professional success
and civic involvement. Alumni are eligible if they attended or graduated
within 10 years of the award year.
- The Distinguished
Citizen Award, which recognizes recipients for
their exceptional service to the university and the community.
Wise
Alumni House is closed temporarily for interior renovations and
roof replacement. The UNCW Office of Alumni Relations has temporarily
relocated to 10 S. Cardinal Drive in Wilmington. The mailing address

UNCW alumni S.T.A.R.T. (Seahawk Territory Alumni
Recruitment Team) volunteers assist the Admissions Office with
recruitment efforts. By doing so, they are able to share some of their own
undergraduate or graduate experiences while meeting prospective students

A $1.18 million grant from the National
Science Foundation will fund the efforts of a partnership between
UNCW and New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick County schools to design,
develop and deliver programs that offer expanded information technology
(IT) experiences to students and their teachers. Seventy five educators
who teach the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics curricula
and 150 of their students in grades 7-12 will learn to use "Squeak" software
to create virtual models that simulate actual science and math-related
