10% DISCOUNT ON PROGRAM FEE
The Executive Certificate Program is designed for professionals looking to further develop, complement and advance their current business knowledge and skills. The program will be offered 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 3-April 28. The cost is $965 for general public; UNCW alumni receive a 10 percent discount.

TRUSTEES APPROVE TUITION/FEES INCREASE
The UNCW Board of Trustees approved tuition increases for the 2009-10 academic year to provide funding in the areas of student need-based financial aid, faculty salaries and positions, and student support programs. They also approved 2009-10 fee increases.

FACULTY REPORT ON IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON COAST
At the request of NC Senator Marc Basnight and UNC System President Erskine Bowles, UNCW faculty have prepared a report on the impact of global climate change on North Carolina. "The Potential Impacts of Climate Change on Coastal North Carolina" focuses on the area from I-95 eastward to the 200 mile limit of the US Exclusive Economic Zone. Notably, the document identifies and recommends potential mitigation and adaptation options and also provides an overview of climate change in the UNCW curriculum.

CLARENCE AWARD TO BE PRESENTED DEC. 19
Local community leader L.C. "Johnny" Johnson will receive his angel wings Friday, Dec. 19, when he is honored at UNCW 11th annual screening of It's A Wonderful Life at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 in Kenan Auditorium. The Clarence Award recognizes someone in the greater Wilmington community who, without fanfare or publicity, gives unselfishly to others to make a real difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

BRUCE NAMED CARNEGIE FOUNDATION PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR
Kate Bruce, professor of psychology and director of the Honors Scholars Program, was chosen as the 2008 North Carolina Professor of the Year. Administered by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, these national awards recognize professors for their influence on teaching and their commitment to undergraduate students.

LEAN OFFICE WORKSHOP
Learn how to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, enhance customer service and apply lean principles to a non-manufacturing setting during the one-day Lean Office workshop on Jan. 28.

MEN'S BASkETBALL
UNCW plays the College of Charleston at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at the Carolina First Center in Charleston. On Dec. 14, senior forward Colin McIntosh and junior guard Nick Vier poured in 20 points apiece to anchor a balanced scoring attack as Vermont built an early lead and withstood a late rally by visiting UNC Wilmington for an 89-68 men’s college basketball victory at Roy L. Patrick Memorial Gymnasium.

PIRATES OVERTAKE LADY SEAHAWKS
Senior guard LeCoya Terry poured in 23 points as East Carolina rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit for a 68-63 win over UNC Wilmington Dec. 14 in women’s basketball action at Trask Coliseum. UNCW returns to the hardwood Thursday, Dec. 18, when it visits Coastal Carolina for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

FORMER SEAHAWK TO BE HONORED
Former men’s basketball guard Mark Gary will be honored by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of its Silver Anniversary Team. The honor recognizes Indiana players who have contributed to the state’s prep basketball lore over the last 25 years. Gary, from Anderson, Ind., will be recognized at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Annual Men’s Banquet on March 25, 2009.

HELP UNCW GET $1 MILLION – UNCW is poised to receive a second $1 million endowment gift from the Bernard Osher Foundation to support the continued good work of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNCW. The Osher Foundation is asking UNCW to demonstrate a sustained membership of more than 1,000 individuals. There were 1,006 members for the 2007-08 academic year, and there are 500 members as of the fall semester. Your membership will assist UNCW in meeting the 2008-09 goal.
