Seahawk Spotlight - June 2008 Volume 7 No. 3
Welcome to UNCW's monthly electronic newsletter for alumni and friends, bringing you news about the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the UNCW Alumni Association.

EVERY GIFT COUNTS
Alumni who contribute to UNCW provide much more than financial assistance. Corporations and foundations consider alumni participation when evaluating grant requests, and U.S.News & World Report factors the percentage into its statistical formula when ranking universities. Each gift represents your confidence in the university and its commitment to provide students with the most powerful learning experience possible. You have the opportunity, right now, to make a difference at UNCW. Make sure your participation is counted before the end of the academic year. You can make your gift online or by mail. You may also call 910.962.3751 or 866.468.6291 to contribute. If you have already given this year, thank you for your loyalty to UNCW. Your support is sincerely appreciated!

SLOWER GROWTH PREDICTED FOR REGION
Woody HallFollowing growth of three percent during 2007, the local economy of Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties is forecast to expand by approximately three percent during 2008 and five percent during 2009 according to William W. Hall Jr., senior economist with the Center for Business and Economic Services at UNCW. Hall noted that actual economic growth for 2007 was substantially below that initially forecast (5 percent), largely due to lower-than-expected growth in the fourth quarter. In particular, after removing seasonal variation and adjusting for inflation, retail sales tax collections fell between the third and fourth quarter. Powerpoint presentation
