Chancellor Rosemary DePaoloTRIANGLE AREA ALUMNI INVITED
TO MEET CHANCELLOR DEPAOLO

Join fellow Triangle area alumni at the Prestonwood Country Club for dinner and a state of the university address by keynote speaker Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at www.uncwalumnitickets.com. Online tickets sales will end at noon Monday, Oct. 13. FALL ALUMNI WEEKEND, OCT. 17-19 Midnite Madness
Fall Alumni Weekend is scheduled in conjunction with Fall Family Weekend. The UNCW Alumni Association and the Office of Transition Programs are hosting a wine and cheese reception for alumni and the parents of current students at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 in the Burney Center. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at www.uncwalumnitickets.com.

The Legacy Pinning Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 in the Burney Center. This event honors UNCW students and their families who have chosen to make UNCW a family tradition.

Other activities include Midnite Madness, a family fall festival picnic and men's soccer game.

NAVIGATING LEADERSHIP
UNCW Professional Education will launch its fall series on Navigating Leadership Thursday, Sept. 25. Targeted to new managers, these workshops are designed to develop leaders who are skilled in building collaborative work teams, innovative in their problem solving and adept at managing people and projects. Campus NewsAT&T EXECUTIVE NAMED TO UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Charlotte executive Cynthia G. Marshall was named to the UNCW Board of Trustees. Appointed by the UNC Board of Governors, she will serve out the remaining term of Krista S. Tillman, which expires in 2011. As president of AT&T North Carolina, Marshall is responsible for the company's regulatory, legislative and community affairs activities within the state.

UNCW MAINTAINS TOP RANKING
For the 11th consecutive year, UNCW ranks as one of the top 10 public master's universities in the South according to U.S.News & World Report. U.S.News also placed UNCW fifth on its list of "up-and-coming" master's universities in the South.

SUMMIT TO ADDRESS HEALTH CARE ACCESS
The annual New Hanover County Health Summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at the Burney Center on the UNCW campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Health care and economics professionals from the region will discuss the realities, issues and challenges of health care access and its economic and social impact on the community.

UNCWSPORT.COM OFFERS FANS MORE
Several enhancements are planned for UNCWsports.com, the official Web site for Seahawk Athletics. HawkVision enters its second year and will add volleyball to its scheduled coverage this fall with the streaming of 17 matches, including the entire home schedule. Another addition to UNCWSports.com is the Seahawk Blog. Live statistics for men’s and women’s soccer also will be introduced at UNCWsports.com. The final enhancement for 2008-09 is UNCW’s Web channel at Youtube.com/uncwsports.

MEN'S BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets for the 15-game schedule, which includes 14 regular season games and an exhibition game against St. Andrew’s, can be purchased at the UNCW Athletics Ticket Office, at 1-800-808-UNCW or at UNCWsports.com. The Seahawks open their season with an exhibition on Nov. 6 against St. Andrew’s, followed by the regular season opener against Appalachian State on Nov. 14.

'HAWKS FARE WELL AT TENNIS INVITATIONAL
Junior Kayla Schwenk captured the women’s singles teal championship while freshman Ryan Ybarra lost his bid in the men’s “A” finals at the UNCW Collegiate Tennis Invitational last weekend at the Country Club of Landfall tennis center. Lauren Isenhour and Lindsay Leblang were declared co-champions of the gold flight after both players won matches Sunday.
