Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Spring Mixer

Close to 80 Triangle Area Alumni swooped in to the Red Room Tapas Lounge in Downtown Raleigh on Thursday, April 30, 2009 for the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Spring Mixer. Seahawk alumni shared UNCW stories while enjoying complimentary appetizers (including chocolate fondue). As the event continued on into 9 o’clock hour, the Red Room was hosting Latin night with free salsa dancing lessons. UNCW alumni danced on into the night. Who knew Seahawks had so much rhythm…

Everyone in attendance was looking forward to the Durham Bulls game that the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter will be hosting on August 16 at 4:30. More details on this event coming soon!

Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Interest Meeting

On Thursday, October 16, 2008, alumni from across the Triangle area flocked to the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC to meet Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo and to hear the voice of UNCW.

Close to 100 Triangle alumni and friends convened to meet UNCW administrators, faculty and staff along with re-connecting with fellow Seahawks attending the event.  During the reception, alumni reminisced about UNCW and all of the special memories that come along with being a Seahawk Alumni.  Since the alumni of the Triangle area cannot always get back to UNCW, the Triangle Alumni Chapter brought UNCW to them.

Everyone filtered into the Grand Ballroom of the Prestonwood and Rob McInturf , Director of Alumni Relations, welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the special event.  As dinner was served, the podium was turned over to Matt Glova ’07 who spoke about how he was moved to start connecting to UNCW alumni in the Triangle area.  As Matt wrapped up his comments, he introduced Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo who gave a 25 minute synopsis of what is happening at UNCW.  From stories about the bright current students to updates on the development of the campus, Chancellor DePaolo wrapped the wide eyed alumni under her wing as she told the UNCW story.

The night concluded with dessert (of course), a review of the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter Bylaws and a vote on the current officers for the Triangle Area Alumni Chapter.  Matt Glova '07 was named President of the Chapter, Dawn King LaSure '83 was named Vice President and Nikki Howard '96 was appointed as Secretary.

Durham Bulls Outing

Durham Bulls image

On Sunday, August 10, 2008 Seahawks from all over the Triangle area flocked to watch their favorite local AAA team the Durham Bulls take on the Richmond Braves.  The event was sponsored by the Triangle Alumni Chapter and GEICO.  As 120 Seahawks perched in the party deck enjoying ball park foods and good company, a large rainstorm moved in and soaked the stadium.  (It was at that point that everyone in the stadium wished they were a Seahawk and protected under the party deck roof!)  This would not however spoil the fun.  After a few minutes of rain, the sky cleared and a rainbow appeared over Durham Bulls Athletic Park.  The party continued on as everyone showed their Seahawk pride.  Unfortunately the evening ended with a loss to the Richmond Braves in extra innings, but it did not dampen the spirits of all who attended as it was a great night of friends, family and baseball!
