Anthropology is the study of human beings in all their aspects from the distant past to the present. Using a comparative perspective on societies, ancient and modern, simple and complex, anthropology allows us to examine ourselves in all our humanly dimensions. Anthropology investigates the links between culture, society, and biology.
At UNCW we offer a course of study in Anthropology which includes cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, forensic anthropology, linguistics, and archaeology.
- Cultural anthropology is the study of contemporary peoples.
- Archaeology examines the material remains of preliterate and literate societies to unlock the secrets of their history.
- Forensic Anthropology is the application of the methods and techniques of analyzing skeletal remains to cases of legal importance.
- Linguistics is the study of the structure and use of languages.
- Physical Anthropology examines human variation, evolution, and forensics.
A major in anthropology prepares the student to better understand the world in which they live.
