Johnson Space Center

I’m Daniel Sedej I work for NASA at the Johnson Space Center. Working for the space program was a childhood dream of mine growing up in Granite City, Illinois. I was fascinated with space exploration and airplanes for as long as I can remember. In High School I took flying lessons which I afforded by working on a classmate’s farm during the summers and on weekends. I graduated from Parks College of St. Louis University in three years with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering. When I started at NASA, I trained Space Shuttle astronauts on Guidance Navigation & Control and then I developed the training program to teach them how to fly the shuttle to rendezvous and dock with satellites. I did this training for a few years then started working on the Space Station Program where I continue today.

I was too young to participate in the Apollo missions. Having worked to make the space shuttle and space station a reality, I’m grateful now for the ability to participate in Project NEEMO where I can help develop operations concepts and techniques for exploring the lunar surface. Project NEEMO allows me to not only to train astronauts but also to visit them during their mission—something I only dreamed of while doing Space Station and Space Shuttle training.

In my free time I enjoy time with my family, running, reading and swimming. I met my wife at NASA and have two children.
