I was born and raised in Lancaster, California and anyone that has spent a summer in the scorching temperatures of the Mojave Desert can appreciate why I got the heck out of there and went on to pursue a career that would require that I live near the coast. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara (a beautiful coastal town) I went on to work for the Coastal and Marine Geology division of the United States Geological Survey in Santa Cruz, California (another amazing coastal town). After seven years of working for the USGS, I decided to head back to school and have recently arrived at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), College of William and Mary where I thought I’d try living on “the other coast” of the U.S. while working on my master’s degree.
