Who is in charge of Aquarius?

Aquarius is owned and managed through the United States Department of Commerce and the National Oceanographic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA). Aquarius is operated by NOAA’s Undersea Research Center (NURC) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). NURC/UNCW is one of six centers funded and administered by NOAA’s Undersea Research Program (NURP). UNCW operates the underwater laboratory at Conch Reef off Key Largo, Florida. Aquarius is used for saturation diving expeditions to explore and conduct research in deep coral reef habitats located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
