John Heine is the Diving Safety Officer and a Research Biologist at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories of the California State University. John received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Irvine, and his Master’s degree from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. He has written many scientific articles on topics ranging from algal productivity to chemical defense in marine invertebrates. He has authored five books, the most recent entitled Scientific Diving Techniques: A Practical Guide for the Research Diver, published by Best Publishing Co. He is a past president of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS). He has been on research diving trips worldwide, including five seasons in Antarctica, and this is his first mission in Aquarius.
