Peter Vroom is a doctoral student in the Botany Department at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. His research interests encompasses systematics, taxonomy, and evolution of marine algae. As an expert in the green algal order Bryopsidales (which includes the genus Halimeda), his recent efforts have included a morphological based phylogeny for the order, a taxonomic history of the group, and studies in siphonous algal reproduction. This is his sixth mission to NURC as part of day boat operations, and his first mission as coordinator of logistics.
