Journal 10- Roy Caldwell - 8/14/99

Now if the animal will cooperate and come up and feed. It has caught fish the past couple of nights.

My work is going well. I managed to find a species of stomatopod that I haven't seen before and have conclusive evidence that it lives in monogamous pairs. I have actually been able to excavate the entire burrow system of four pairs. I feel like a giant ray digging two feet deep, yard wide pits in the sand. This would be impossible using SCUBA from the surface since it takes me at least an hour to dig out one pair.

Our trip this morning to Deep S-4 was a success. I caught six Odontodactylus, another major objective for my trip.

The crew is giving me a hard time over my journal report. They think the green blood oozing from my finger was too much. Oh well, a couple of people will probably remember the color of blood at 100 feet. Sounds like a good question for Hollywood Squares!
