Timothy P. Henkel Timothy is currently working towards his Masters degree in Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Timothy came to the Pawlik lab from New Jersey, where he grew up in the town of Bloomfield. He spent his youth attending Oak View Elementary School. Timothy completed his secondary education at Bloomfield High, excelling in the sciences. It was at this point that Timothy decided he wanted to contribute to a better understanding of our water planet. He went on to receive his Bachelor's degree in Biology from Cook College, Rutgers University. As part of his undergraduate training, he participated in the East/West Marine Biology Program through Northeastern University. It was during his semester studying the coral reefs off Jamaica that he discovered the wonderful world of sponge ecology. Since then, he's been hooked. Timothy's current research is focused on brittle stars that live inside sponges. His work investigates species-specific associations, sponge site fidelity, and the effects of predation and competition on brittle star populations. Timothy is an avid diver, and looks forward to his first Aquarius mission. |
