Greg was born in Metalline Falls, Washington in 1959 and lived for the
next four years in Spokane. He moved to Little Rock, Arkansas and attended
Sherwood Elementary until age 13, when he moved to Duncanville, Texas.
He attended Reed Junior High and graduated from Duncanville High School
in 1978. As a kid, he enjoyed fishing, swimming and spending time in the
woods; wherever he was, he always found himself spending lots of time
in and around the water. After graduation, Greg joined the Navy where
he spent two years on the USS Guam and developed more of an interest in
and respect of the ocean. He attended US Navy Dive School at Little Creek
Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Virginia and spent the next two years with
the Underwater Photo Team and had the opportunity to develop a fascination
for marine life. After working as a commercial diver for five years, Greg
decided to pursue a career in Marine Biology and subsequently attended
West Virginia University for an undergraduate degree in Biology. When
he graduated, he went to the University of North Carolina to pursue a
graduate degree in Marine Biology. He currently works as a Research Specialist
for Dr. Joe Pawlik and is interested in the ecology and chemistry of deep
reef sponges.
