techniques of fish and shrimp farming in mangrove areas along the Pacific
Coast of Colombia. After that she went to work for a European Community

Subsequently she was technical director for a government funded artisanal
fishermen's project. In 1992 she moved to England where she learned English
and took a Masters degree in Tropical Coastal Management at Newcastle
University. After finishing her M.Sc. Patricia returned to Colombia to
work on the production of policies for the coastal management of Colombia.
She then worked in the IOCARIBE office at Cartagena on coastal management
issues for the Caribbean region. She married and settled in England in
1998. Since then she has been working at Newcastle University as a research
assistant, on projects including video analysis of larval behavior, and
the settlement of coral larvae on Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia.
Additionally she is undertaking a Ph.D. degree combining marine sciences
and social sciences for the sustainable management of tropical coastal
resources. During this mission Patricia will be part of the surface support
team and will work on the coral's stinging cells (nematocysts) and take
the macro-photographs.
