Today began with some hot chocolate and a fruit cup. I always sleep like a rock down here. I would normally go for some coffee right away, but today I wanted to prolong the time before my morning rituals. I'm usually the type to take it slow in the early hours, but when living with five other people in a steel tube you don't have much quiet time. That's not to say that I'm not enjoying the company. In fact we've got an interesting group down here from NASA. They are looking at the prospects of using Aquarius and its systems for astronaut training. Of course what better way to test those ideas than to send some down on a saturation mission. One of their goals while working with us in Aquarius is to join with various outreach programs that support the teaching of science and technology. Today we had a video conference with a school group. Students in their class room were able to ask the aquanauts questions, both inside and outside on the reef. I spent a few hours outside (that's diving on hookah) doing some maintenance tasks after lunch. My dive ended up going into the darker hours, which offered up some more interesting views of the critters down here. The really funky stuff comes out at night. I guess that's true for more places than just the bottom of the ocean. Now it's late and I'm growing tired. As my eyes grow heavy I know that soon in my future will be some more hot chocolate and another fruit cup. |
