| Mitchell M. Sisak Mitch has been fascinated by all things aquatic from a very young age. Summers were spent by the sea and a diving mask, a snorkel and fins were almost permanent attire. Though biology in general has always been a passion, marine biology held a special place in his heart. Growing up with the tantalizing images of undersea life provided by such television shows as Sea Hunt, National Geographic, and Jacques Cousteau Specials, Mitch convinced his parents to let him take SCUBA lessons the minute he was old enough. This marked a milestone in his quest to learn as much as he could about the sea and its creatures. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, Mitch went on to get a Master's degree in Biological Oceanography. Having worked in both environmental consulting and for the Canadian government, Mitch is presently employed by the applications division of Lotek Wireless Inc, a Canadian company specializing in the design and manufacture of advanced wildlife telemetry products. In this role, he has combined his passion for biology with his keen interest in electronics to offer guidance and assistance to scientists conducting both radio and acoustic telemetry projects. Providing topside assistance to the present mission, Mitch trained with the crew as an alternate aquanaut. At the start of the mission, he set up the fish tracking equipment in Aquarius and is providing ongoing technical support. Additionally, he is assisting with the surgical implantation of the acoustic transmitters used in the study. |
