Born 9/22/62 Ft. Belvoir, Virginia

Russ Lounsbury is a research diver for the National Undersea Research Center at UNCW. His father, a career army officer, had various postings around the country, which instilled in Russ a love of travel. Russ was an avid boy scout and competitive swimmer. On summer breaks he would Lifeguard at pools and various ocean resorts. Much of his free time was spent surfing and diving off the North Carolina coast. Graduating in 1987 from George Mason University with a B.A. in history, Russell decided to pursue a teaching certificate. Upon getting his teaching credentials Russ moved to Florida and taught social studies for two years.

He eventually took a full time Lifeguard/Emergency Medical Technician job on the beaches of Indian River County, Florida. Four years later Russ decided to return to the western U.S. to take advantage of the outdoor opportunities. Russ gained experience in heavy equipment operation and computer technologies during his time in Colorado. Russ joined the Aquarius team in May of 1999, and this is his third saturation mission.
