Journal 5- Russ Lounsbury: Mission Day 6: Saturday, June 23, 2001

It’s Saturday night in Aquarius. This is my third saturation mission and things seem to be running smoothly. Our surface support crew supplies us with extra food, parts for the habitat and the occasional V.P visitor. Yesterday I was out on hookah (a breathing umbilical linked to the habitat.) when the surface support crew pulled up. Since the staff rotate missions I’m often up there with them. It was neat to have a fish eye view of my coworkers as they splashed in with large pressure pots filled with supplies.

Mike Smith is my fellow technician, and also lives in the apartment above me. The big difference is down here I can’t steal beer out of his refrigerator. So far there have been lots of fish, and not exactly the clear visibility we had on day one. I have a lot of energy during the day but in the evening it goes pretty quick. I miss my girlfriend and my dog but I’m having a blast. We have spent a lot of time cleaning the plumbing on the habitat. If you visit the webcams on the Aquarius site you might see me or Smitty out there scrubbing away !
