Wow, what a day! First day in Aquarius and it was great! Action packed! Lots to see and do. We started the day with a dive down to the habitat to check in. After Dan and I got to the wet porch and checked in with the techs, Ryan and Thor, we waited there for our teammates. They were down in a jiffy and checked in as well. After that it was into our first orientation dive. The four of us were off to the Pinnacle, south of the habitat. It was a bit of a trek out there - and it was only us. No techs or instructors with us, we were on our own. It was great. Deep water, approaching 90 feet, lots of reef to explore. We saw our first of many lobsters, lots of fish, lots of coral...shapes and forms I have never seen before or thought even existed. Then it was off to the northeast. That trek was a little more tricky because the water was not as deep. This time, we needed to watch that we didn't get too shallow. We were into the saturation dive tables at this point so we had an upper limit as well as a lower limit. Lots to keep in mind with lots of great sight seeing. We saw our first Moray Eel on this trek - that was sort of scary. On our way back to the habitat we all looked up at the LSB (the buoy that has all our life support stuff on it) and saw a huge school of barracuda...I have discovered they are always lurking around, lots of them. They are really quite peaceful fish, just hanging out, seems like they don't even move. Silvery and beautiful. That was it for the first day of diving, but there was so much more -
we are living undersea now! Dinner as a crew, some great bonding (comparing
all our new discoveries is awesome). However, I already have a feeling
that time by myself would be nice. However, I found I could do that in
the bunk room, even though there were 5 other people in the room. I just
put on a set of headphones and like magic I am back in my place, with
all my thoughts and dreams. I miss my husband and my dog. Wondered how
they were doing and laughed at their funny little characteristics that
I miss... |
