Journal 23 - Joshua Idjadi: Day 8: Monday, June 17, 2002

We spent a lot of time in the water today. We got all of the work done that we set out to do. Today was the
last full day of science diving so I tried to spend a little more time looking around. I enticed a Pederson
cleaner shrimp to "clean" my hand. It passed over my palm a few times before deciding that there was
nothing good to eat.

This morning there were shocking pockets of cold water all over our study sites. I went from shivering to
feeling warm in the space of a few minutes. Speaking of warmth, I've been looking forward to feeling the
warmth of the sun when we ascend in a few days. Being warm is a rare and valuable commodity down here. If I ever have the opportunity to do another mission I might fatten up a bit first!

Tonight there was an incredible show outside. Bait fish, predators, and zooplankton are all swirling
around in a frenzy. We saw a tiny blue glowing organism against the galley viewport and thousands of
other wriggling creatures squirming around and bumping into each other in the light.

It's bedtime. Thanks for reading. Until tomorrow..
