Journal 6- Joshua Idjadi: Day 3: Wednesday, June 12, 2002
The parade of zooplankton last night was unbelievable. The tiny animals crowding around the exterior of the habitat are so numerous and dense that they practically blocked the lights. They swirl around the lights like long, pink, horizontal tornados. They are a powerful reminder of the quantity of life in the ocean.
This morning was very productive. What a luxury to dive for three hours at a time and come into the habitat for a hot meal! This afternoon, we saw the largest Eagle Ray I've ever seen. It flew by in a long slow arc and faded into the blue. The experiments are going well and the coral larvae are being released as we had hoped. On a personal note, freeze-dried ice cream, while not at all like regular ice cream, has a delicious charm all it's own. More tomorrow - Joshua.
