As I sit writing this James has wandered into my view through the window. He's clambering around outside with a steel brush, cleaning off the habitat, clinging to the side like a superhero, or a very large bug. Today was fairly eventful. Unfortunately there did not seem to be many larvae. We suspect that the corals might have been affected by the poor weather yesterday. On the bright side, when Josh and I were out checking the larval traps we saw two nurse sharks!!! One was almost close enough to touch. It's funny how many people are afraid of sharks, these animals seemed rather frightened of us. Had a bit of a health scare today. When we were returning from our dive my left ear would not clear, leaving pressure in that side of my head which was a bit uncomfortable and could be a sign of ear problems to come. Luckily, a hot shower loosened up whatever funk was plugging my Eustachian tubes (inside my ear) and the navy doc checked me out and gave me a clean bill of health. I should be able to dive tomorrow. (James just came up to the window again and made a burbling whooping noise. Everything is good for a laugh when you're a little bit narced.) Other than the day's events I am just enjoying living underwater. There are always fish outside the viewports and the clearest shade of blue during the day. It's kind of funny to be in a reverse fish bowl, or more accurately, a human bowl. I'd swear that some of the fish just hang around the windows to watch us. I think I'll fix myself a bit to eat before bed (I had a NASA pork chop
for lunch today, it tasted strangely like tuna). More tomorrow. |
