Jeff Williams (Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army) His first space flight was mission STS-101 in May 2000, a 10-day mission on the Space Shuttle Atlantis to the International Space Station (ISS). Williams was the flight engineer for Atlantis and conducted a space walk that lasted nearly 7 hours. He is looking forward to the opportunity for a long duration flight on ISS. Colonel Williams has a BS from the United States Military Academy, a MS in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, a MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, and is a graduate of the Naval Test Pilot School. Williams was inspired by the Apollo moon missions and set the goal of becoming an astronaut while a cadet at West Point. He is fascinated with exploring the unknown and the challenges of human exploration, and considers the challenges of living and working on Aquarius to be analogous to living and working space. He enjoys running, camping, fishing, downhill skiing, SCUBA diving, and woodworking.
