| Journal 17 - Jeff Williams:
Mission Day 4: Thursday, July 18, 2002 It's Thursday evening, Mission Day 4, and we just finished dinner. I find that every day I seem to be hungrier and also appreciating the sleep time more. This afternoon, Jonathan and I had a mission out in the area northeast of Aquarius. The currents were very strong, which added a lot to the workload to get there. The current brought a great deal of particulate material in the water, which brought the visibility down to 25 foot or so. It reminded me of a blizzard in my home town of Winter, Wisconsin. It was a workout getting to the work area and the way station where we top off the tanks with air. Fortunately, the trip back was very easy. All we had to do was drift along without working at all, and the current took us right back to Aquarius. Along the way, we had several very large barracuda checking us out. They look a little threatening but appear to be just curious. They didn't seem to have any problem with the current. We also saw several large grouper, many angel fish, several lobsters, and a very large ray gliding along the ocean floor. It was fun and somewhat challenging video taping them all. Tomorrow, we are looking forward to a visit by the next NASA crew. They are in Florida training for their mission and will come out and dive near Aquarius. Hopefully we will get a chance to join them in the wet porch of Aquarius to say hi. It's good to get visitors. Time for sleep. More tomorrow .. Jeff
