"The Revenge of the Fishes"

When we live underwater as long as we do on these Aquarius missions, we can clearly see the personalities of the various fishes around the reef. In this light, it is not hard to imagine that the fish are enjoying themselves after the end of the day's events.

Following five days of successful surgeries on a variety of fishes, I received a bit of karmic return. While attempting to isolate a Hogfish in a trap for surgery, a doctorfish which was also in the trap swam into my mesh bag. While attempting to remove the Doctorfish, it sliced my left palm with the spine on its caudal peduncle. The dimensions of the slice are remarkably similar to the incisions I have made on its fellow fishes all week long.

Lacerations aside, all is well on the acoustic tagging project. Our diver-held receiver is back up and running, and we are getting excellent video of our tagged fish.

I suppose the ultimate revenge would have ended with me tagged. I'm not sure what the fish have planned for tomorrow, but my colleagues and I will be watching.
