Gomez: Mission Day 5: Friday, August 23, 2002 The day started off fine. We were working the pinnacle area (95 ft) and conditions were pretty good. My first count went fine but I did start to notice that the viz was getting worse dropping from 50+ ft to about 30 ft making it hard to see the fish at the edge of my count area. The second sample set was about the same but the viz continued to deteriorate. One good thing was the availability of the fill station which allowed us to refill our tanks out on site rather than swim back to the habitat, 900 ft. away. The last sample set went as usual until I had a huge green moray show up. It was nice to see a different fish for a change. The habitat life is still fine, everyone seems to be having a good time. There are jokes about the "facilities" constantly, and I feel sorry for Sarah having to put up with 5 guys for the entire mission. The food is the best (I just had some "eggs" that were better than at home). |
