Fangman: Mission Day 8: Monday, August 26, 2002 At this point in our mission (the last full day) we are seeing many of our tagged fish swimming around. I'm happy to report that they appear healthy. Ive gotten close to several and could see that their incisions (which are approximately 1 centimeter long) are healing well. Rick and Mike have reported seeing some of the tagged fish out in their survey areas, indicating that the fish are traveling quite a distance (at least 900 feet from where they were tagged). Today we also spotted a barracuda that must have met some of our fellow scientists. I could tell because the fish was wearing an an undetermined instrument. The fish was approximately three feet long and looked like it was carrying a backpack. It would be interesting to know who placed it on the fish, and where, and when, and why? I am sure that whoever attached it to the barracuda would love to know we saw it swimming around! We did our share of tagging today as well. Three blue parrotfish, three yellowtail snapper and two hogfish, thus completing our tagging efforts! Every tag deployed! We couldnt be happier. Tomorrow, on our last dive, well spend our time finding and filming tagged fish. I cant believe the mission is almost complete what an amazing experience. I feel so fortunate to have had this opportunity! |
