Journal 19a-Rick Gomez: Mission Day 8: Monday, August 26, 2002

This morning we woke up to what have become the familiar sounds of the crackling habitat, which we were told are actually shirmp making the noises we hear. The day started with Mike and I having to fight a ripping current to get out to the Pinnacle (our deep site) where we did our samples. I had a nice morning dive with the samples going great and highlighted by a close encounter with a hawksbill sea turtle. I have included one of the several pictures I took as she swam by. The other dives were good also with sitings of spotted eagle rays on both. Unfortunately, today was our last full day of diving and I think everyone is sad that the mission is coming to an end. I for one have mixed feelings - on one hand I really enjoy being down here and diving but, I love my family (Betsy and Trey) and miss them very much.
