Fangman: Mission Day 3: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 Last evenings show was even better than the first! An underwater lightning storm! I was like a little kid each flash and I felt like shouting and clapping (well, maybe I did a few times). The water would glow the most glorious blue. With each lightning strike, the fish would be illuminated, suspended mid-motion. Absolutely spectacular. Im hoping well be treated with another before the mission is complete. And the diving today - fantastic as well These first few days, weve been working with two traps placed in different locations around the reef. One would really be more appropriately called a sieve. Every time a fish entered the trap mouth it would escape by one of the many holes in the trap side. Unfortunately, this trap was positioned in an area of high fish density. So we watched more than one of our target fish escape before we could tag them. Today, our surface support team moved the second, more effective trap into the fish zone. Within minutes, we had a BIG black grouper in the trap! So big that the fish almost couldnt move within the trap! It was interesting getting the powerful fish out of the trap, but once we did the surgery went smoothly. Hopefully tomorrow will be equally productive! |
