Journal 2- Jessica Meir: Day 2: Tuesday, September 24, 2002
It was a nice feeling to wake up this morning in the habitat ...we had two lengthy dives today, one to construct the water lab (which we put together with relative ease) and the second to conduct coral science, measuring the size and health of corals around the habitat. The coral science proved to be the much more difficult task...especially for our NASA engineer/pilot oriented group! We focused on the task however, and hopefully did collect some data that will be of use to the marine scientists at NURC/NOAA.

One interesting fact that we realized yesterday...it is incredibly difficult to whistle down here! As many of my friends/family know, I whistle constantly...and I can't even carry a tune in Aquarius...perhaps my crewmates appreciate that!

We were a bit disappointed to learn this evening that our already abbreviated mission might be shortened even further due to another encroaching tropical storm. Unfortunately the weather is beyond our control so we will just have to wait and see what it has in store for us...though I would definitely love to stay down here at Aquarius for a much longer period of time Hopefully I will have that opportunity again sometime in my future.

Looking forward to tomorrow's early morning dive, hoping to catch some of the night sea life in action around Aquarius...
