Journal 6- Jessica Meir: Day 3: Wednesday, September 25, 2002
We woke up early today for a dawn dive . . . hoping to catch a glimpse of the nocturnal sea creatures in action. The green moray and the "highway" of fish moving to and fro were well worth the lack of sleep (quite a statement coming from a person that sleeps as much as I do!). After returning to the habitat, we were thrilled to discover that our mission wouldn't be shortened afterall. Tropical Storm Lily toned down a bit, allowing us to continue our mission. I was ecstatic...

Our seventh crewmember, Sponge Bob Squarepants, joined us for our second dive and subsequent activities. We experienced our second round of coral science data collection...our techniques improved drastically from yesterday's experience, and I believe we collected some beneficial data and video for NURC's marine scientists. This activity was very challenging, but extremely rewarding, as I believe I succeeded in identifying and measuring several different species of coral.

Following this dive, we participated in an educational outreach event with 3rd and 8th graders in Houston, with Scott's and Paul's daughters amongst them. Sponge Bob, Rex, and I made an appearance in one of the habitat's viewports to model our dive gear.

I spent a bit of time just sitting and looking out of the viewport today as well...it is difficult to take my eyes away from our reverse aquarium view. I will definitely miss it!

One more dive tomorrow morning...our last opportunity to be members inthe Aquarius ecosystem... tomorrow afternoon will begin our decompression period, and unfortunately, it will be our last full day in the habitat.
