Report #1: Training week - Bill Todd: Thursday, September 12, 2002
Greetings from the National Undersea Research Center in Key Largo, Florida. We are quickly wrapping up our training week and are happy to report that the training is proceeding smoothly and all of the Aquanaut candidates are healthy. It's been a busy week, as usual, but quite a bit smoother than the past. Thankfully, the process has been streamlined and our training days aren't lasting late into the night anymore. This has enabled the crew to get plenty of rest each evening. The mission starts with "splashdown" on Monday morning and will continue for nine days. During this mission we are accomplishing many new science objectives, several of which are physiological studies being investigated by SLSD. We have several media outreach plans in work including a spot on a morning talk show on Tuesday and a "media day" next Friday. Details will follow. Please visit the NURC/UNCW "Aquarius" website during the mission for live video, journals, timeline info and images. Thanks from the training " topside" team of Bill and Marc. |
